Move Over Plasma, Here Comes X-LCD !! - by David Susilo
As a fan of plasma, thus far there is nothing out there than can match the performance of plasma. Not even the 70" 336-zone local dimming LED backlight LCD panels that costs $9,000
Sony decided to travel differently with their “Crystal LED Display” that is still in the prototype phase. This 55″ model is a self-emitting display that relies on Sony’s unique methods to mount ultrafine LEDs in each of the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) colors, which is equal in value to the number of pixels just like plasma and OLED without the negatives of plasma (burn-in) or OLED (short lifespan of the blue colour pixel). As a result, your eyes are greeted with images with strikingly higher contrast, regardless of whether you are in light and dark environments. Other features will include a wider color gamut, superb video image response time, and wider viewing angles when compared to existing LCD and plasma displays, not to mention its low power consumption. There is no exact release date for the Sony Crystal LED Display, and I am quite sure it is going to be sold as an XBR flagship model. Yes, seriously, even as an avid plasma fan I can now finally say "move over, plasma!" Photos and Article by David Susilo
